Nero Hybrid Boat
Imagine that ride over the water at 100 km/h sitting in a glass cockpit with sprung seats.

Nero is a future project that combines environmental awareness with contemporary design.
"We want to show that future environmental boats do not have to be slow and tedious. Imagine that ride over the water at 100 km/h sitting in a glass cockpit with sprung seats and fuel economy of a small boat. In low-speed driving it´s running on batteries alone and charged by solar panels on the roof."
The boat is not far from reality and there are several who are interested to be part of the realization of this concept.
The Swedish boat designer Ocke Mannerfelt has with his son Ted developed an entirely new concept boat called Nero. It is a design study of the future dream boat, according Ocke himself. The boat has racing design and a hybrid solution using diesel and electric engines.
2008 drew Mannerfelt Design Team, a new racing catamaran to the Victory Team in Dubai. The boat will compete in the second largest class and have both won competitions in the Middle East and World Cup 2009th
- The racing catamaran is the most efficient boat we have ever designed, but we know we can make it even better, "said Ocke Mannerfelt.
- To show our high ambitions, I have updated our race yacht to what I call a dream-concept-hybrid boat with a lot of inspiration from modern car design. We have given the boat many unique solutions and highly innovative for the boating industry "- says Ted Mannerfelt who designed the boat.
The idea of the boat is that the crew sit like in a helicopter, in a glass bubble and see the water under your feet. Operation is carried out with a joystick, although it the same way as in a helicopter.
Cockpit roof is of glass with solar panels and interior, climate control. The engine is a hybrid solution between a modern diesel engine for cars and electric motors with battery power. Diesel engines are Volvo Penta D3-engines, the most modern and cleanest available right now.
In low-speed driving is silent on the electricity and the higher speeds of diesel operation. The batteries can be recharged from diesel engines, by solar cells or from shore.
The acceleration used gas and electricity together to get the maximum effect.
- The whole concept has an extremely low power consumption, probably only a third of today's boats, "said Ocke Mannerfelt.
Nero is a concept boat, but may as well be a reality soon.
