Ross Architecture & Design is a Swedish architect’s office founded and run by Pål Ross. The company is based in Stockholm but has been involved in projects all over Scandinavian. The main focus of Ross is one-off private family houses.

Pål Ross was born in Stockholm in 1961. After living 13 years of his early life in Spain Ross returned to Sweden to do his military service. At the age of 26 he was admitted to the Royal Technical College of Architecture in Stockholm. His main directions during his student years were organic forms and fluency between inner and outer spaces. Following his graduation in 1992 Pål Ross met Erik Aasmussen and had the opportunity to study his anthroposophic architecture.

In addition to Pål Ross, Ylva Bengtsson and Petra Olerud are also part of Ross Architecture & Design. The company offers to follow the customer throughout the whole building process, from the initial idea to the inauguration of the fireplace. The direction of Ross’s work has been described as developing the Swedish tradition in combination with Scandinavian functionalism, and also with the addition of organic and international influences. The company carries out between 10 and 15 projects annually.

One basic element of the philosophy behind Ross’s designs is the notion that the architecture of a home forms the physical framework in which we go about our daily lives. Pål Ross desires to create a living environment that promotes the communitarian aspect of the family while also leaving room for privacy. Some distinct features of his designs include high ceilings in living room areas, open and accessible floor plans, inviting kitchens, master bedrooms and terraces.

Ross Architecture & Design are not only concerned with the aesthetical aspects of building a family home. Careful attention is paid to materials and technology to make sure that the final products meets the highest quality standards. Materials and construction methods are chosen to avoid provoking allergies and humidity issues. Floor heating with water radiators, solar panels, LED lighting and intelligent power saving systems are other feature of Ross’ houses that ensure quality and sustainability.

To cope with increasing demand of his designs, Pål Ross has come up with the concept of lithography houses. This concept is based on series of twelve houses that are variations of the same basic design. Each house is customised for its location and there has to a minimum of ten kilometres between two houses of the same series.
